Russia and Pakistan to establish High-Level Inter-Parliamentary Commission

Bilateral meeting of Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asad Qaiser

The bilateral meeting of the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin and the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asad Qaiser was held on the sidelines of the International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”, which is being held on July 1–3 in Moscow on the initiative of the State Duma.

Viacheslav Volodin and Asad Qaiser discussed issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, as well as the development of new inter-parliamentary formats, including the preparation of the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey in Istanbul and the Fourth Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in Nur -Sultan. The Chairman of the State Duma took an initiative to discuss together the possibility of increasing the number of countries participating in the Conference, by including Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and other countries of the region that are facing challenges.

Viacheslav Volodin proposed his Pakistani counterpart to establish High-Level Inter-Parliamentary Commission between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

“We cooperate with you together in the framework of a large number of inter-parliamentary platforms, the relations between our parliaments have become systemic, more dynamic. Let’s soon consider the possibility of establishment of High-Level Inter-Parliamentary Commission,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma instructed the Deputy Chairwoman of the State Duma Olga Timofeeva and the relevant Committees of the State Duma to consider the issue of establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to relations with Russia,” the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan stressed, adding that his country is also interested in developing relations in other various areas like energy, including nuclear energy, defense, culture and education.

According to Asad Qaiser , relations between parliamentarians are regular.
