On June 15, 2011 constituent meeting of the Saint Petersburg branch of the Business Council for cooperation with Pakistan under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place at Saint Petersburg Investment Projects Hall. The meeting was chaired by Gennady Nikolaevich Seleznev and was attended by representatives of business communities of St. Petersburg and Pakistan. Sergei Mikaelian was elected the head of the St. Petersburg branch.

Opening the constituent meeting, the President of the Russian Business Council for cooperation with Pakistan Gennady Seleznev said that he hoped the St. Petersburg branch would actively join the work of the Russian Business Council and this would lead to increase in trade and economic relations between two countries. The Business Council, he said, is designed to maintain and develop relations ties between St. Petersburg and Pakistan.

Executive Director of the Business Council for cooperation with Pakistan Dr. Zahid Ali Khan said that leaders of the Business Council had responded enthusiastically to Sergey Michaelian’s proposal on May 4, 2011 in Moscow to establish the St. Petersburg branch of the Business Council, which he had said would become a center of attraction for businessmen of St. Petersburg and North-West region of Russia wanting to create not only business but also cultural, scientific and sport ties with Pakistan.

Sergei Mikaelian thanked leaders of the Russian Business Council for their confidence and noted he was familiar with many of Pakistani businessmen representing various sectors of business in St. Petersburg. “We have all necessary tools to develop business contacts and we hope that results of our branch of the Business Council will be visible in the third quarter of this year” said Sergei Mikaelian.
